Durham, NC, Wednesday, August 16, 2017 — After receiving 2,000 submissions from every state, State Farm selected PORCH-Durham as one of the top 200 causes. With $25,000 PORCH-Durham’s BackPack Buddies program can add an additional 70 BackPack Buddies to the program.
Unfortunately in Durham, over 5,000 children enrolled in Durham Public Schools do not have enough food to eat over the weekends and on breaks when school is not in session. This lack of nutrition can lead to the inability to pay attention in class, low test scores, absenteeism, and behavior problems.
